Top riders arrived in Portland Manor after a hell of a ride through the Outeniqua Mountains. David Labuschagne took a wipe on one of the first downhills which gave Iain Don Wauchope the chance to get into the lead – however on the last steep uphill David had some more power left in his legs and finished in first position in an incredible time of 3:29:46. Cas Van Aardenne and Iain Don-Wauchope finished 2 seconds from each other with Cas finishing in 3:32:33 and Iain 3:32:35.
First woman in was yellow jersey holder Sue Don Wauchope in 3:58:49 – she came in with a smile raving about the beautiful scenery, while the majority of athletes commented on the very steep hills that became an extra challenge due to the previous night’s rain.
